Dare to Dream
Lately, my mind has been swirling about the point of dreaming. About how when the world is filled with such horrible things happening, how can one just continue on and chase those dreams that in comparison are insignificant.
About how Canada’s forests are so ablaze that they impact weather in Colorado, 1,700 miles away. Or Instagram feeds being filled with the images of starving children and people feeling so helpless, they just scroll past. Or watching countless people being kidnapped right off the street, never knowing if they will ever see their families again.
In a world, where these are things we are confronted with every day, how can we possibly move on with our dreams to travel the world, or write a novel, or create art that creates a legacy.
These dreams seem so insignificant in our current world.
Needless to say, this has left me feeling very unmotivated and as someone who leads life with passion and a spark for life, I wasn’t sure how to deal with it.
When I reach a point in my life where I find myself in an unfamiliar place, I reach out to friends to see if they can help support or provide guidance. One of them said something that has really lingered with me.
They said, “Aren’t times like this where dreams are most important.”
That made me pause and think about what a privilege it is to dream. To look at your life and picture something better, something more. It made me realize how powerful that is. How hopeful that can be. About the ripple effects that can be caused by seeing someone chase the things they have always wanted amidst all of the challenges in the world. And how inspiring it can be to watch them achieve it.
It made me realize that dreaming, isn’t insignificant, no matter the size of the dream.
It made me realize that dreaming is a bat signal of hope. A way to show the world, that literally nothing can bring you down. And it made me understand the clarity those dreams can provide you and your life.
So this is my challenge to you. Dream your little heart out. Dream like you’ve never dreamt before. Research new places to travel that you never knew existed. Start that novel and don’t stop at the first draft. Create all the art and let yourself express all those things you are feeling through it.
Because the world needs your dreams right now. It needs your hope and your strength. And the world needs YOU!
So don’t stop dreaming. Because you never know when that dream might come true.
